PORT DESCRIPTION

Location: Stratoni is situated on the NW corner of Lerissos Bay.

General overview: A mineral port in N Greece. Used by vessels loading manganese ore.

Load line zone: Summer.

Max sixe: LOA 140m, beam 18m, draught 6.5m.

NAVIGATION

Anchorages: Vessels anchor 1nm SE of buoys in position 40°31.0’N 023°50.0’E in depth of 40m. In very bad weather, NE force 7-8, vessels must shift anchorage in the southern port of Lerissos Bay. Stratoni offers a good anchorage in Lerissos Bay and can be considered a safe berth apart from an occasional summer swell which may force ships to suspend loading operations and seek shelter at the Platy or Elia anchorages.

Tidal range and flow: Range 0.3m.

Dock density: 1025.

Charts: BA 1086, 1687. Admiralty Pilot NP48. During NE gales swell is sometimes sufficient to prevent loading and cause vessels to shelter.
